Many of us may wonder how might sneakers relate to the entertainment industry on a business level. For those that are into collecting sneakers, more than likely have a habit of wanting all of the exclusives when they are released. Unlike celebs that have the money to buy these price pieces of footwear, and yet still get them free. We save up our little money and take out time to either camp out late nights for these releases or over pay for them to be ‘the first’ person with them.
You can almost always see celebs wearing sneakers that have yet to be released and I am sure you are wondering how did they get them. Sneaker companies see these celebs as a status symbol for their brand. If a hot new artist like Drake is wearing a pair of there soon to be released sneakers. It makes the consumers (us) want to buy them. After reading a recent interview in Billboard magazine, hip-hop artist Drake revealed a special pair of Air Jordan IVs in white/midnight navy- Columbia blue color way that has his nickname ‘Drizzy’ stitched on the inner face of the tongue. If you see photo postings of Drake, you will notice that he has been rocking upcoming Air Jordan releases ahead of schedule.
Chris Brown who is another artist that has been spotted wearing sneakers that haven’t been released yet, was spotted wearing a pair of Air Jordan XIII playoff’s which are due to be released later sometime this month. So as we can see, and have come to notice the entertainment business and sneakers are one that coincides with one another. A celebrity looks good wearing a pair of limited edition sneakers that have yet to come out. And the sneaker company business makes more sales from having a celebrity wearing them.
