Silica Gels & Sneaker soles yellowing

As many of us already know, when you own a pair of sneakers that have clear or icy bottoms that only time can tell when that clear coat will begin to turn or look yellowish. The yellowing that we all fear as sneaker collectors is called oxidation.  Oxidation is a chemical reaction in which a material gives up electrons that combines with oxygen. This combination is the cause of icy bottoms turning yellow.

To date there is nothing that can prevent the soles from turning this color, but the process of it can be slowed down. How you ask? A product called Sea Glow that will help clean off that yellowish color along with the UV rays from the sun. Also the use of silica gels left within the sneaker box can also slow down oxidation because those little gel balls in the bag absorb moisture and prevents mildew that helps in the yellowing of the soles.
